Equipping Tomorrow’s Leaders Today
Carnegie Mellon University is educating, preparing and inspiring the leaders of the future to tackle tomorrow’s challenges. That’s a role we do not take lightly.
The issues facing our world are great, and so are the opportunities. When we make accessing a CMU education possible for every talented student regardless of their circumstance, we equip them with the knowledge, skills and flexibility to seize the possibilities, innovate solutions and move us all forward to a brighter future. But before these students can stride confidently into that future, we have to open the door for them.

When we launched Make Possible: The Campaign for Carnegie Mellon University, we knew our goals were ambitious. But campaign supporters have answered the call. In March, the campaign exceeded its initial $2 billion goal, thanks to gifts from an astounding 61,000 supporters. One of the recent commitments that will help us achieve our vision of greater access is a transformational gift from the Rales Foundation to launch and endow the CMU Rales Fellows Program, which will recruit, support and educate some of the nation’s most talented and currently underrepresented graduate students to the university’s STEM disciplines.
Campaign gifts like this one have been instrumental in accelerating key CMU programs that create opportunities and prepare students for leadership, including the Tartan Scholars program, Mastercard Foundation Scholars program at CMU-Africa, numerous graduate fellowships and undergraduate scholarships, and the Summer Academy for Math and Science (SAMS), just to name a few.
While achieving our campaign goal — and far ahead of schedule — is an incredible milestone, we’re not done yet.
As we recently shared, we are extending the campaign until June 2025, when we will celebrate the 125th anniversary of the founding of this great institution. At CMU, success drives us to reach further and work harder, and we still have much more to accomplish in support of our students, faculty and staff.
Now is the time to make an impact on the lives of students like those you will meet in this issue. Lives will be changed; breakthroughs will be made; and challenges will be solved thanks to this campaign’s generous supporters.
Thank you for being a part of our community.
